Edmands, E. J., Lieutenant Commander (Ernest John), 1917-1996

E. J. Edmands Biographical Note

Lieutenant Commander Ernest John "E.J." Edmands was the Coordinator of Admissions and Records at Thomas Nelson Community College. Documentary evidence shows him in the office from the early 1970s into the 1980s, when Dr. Judy McMillan seems to have taken it over.

Before coming to the College, Edmands graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1941, and served in the Aleutian campaign in World War II. He married Marguerite Phyllis Bailey Edmands in 1942. He stayed in the Navy until 1962, serving in various posts in places like Paris and Bahrain. After retiring from the Navy, Edmands taught at Northern Virginia Community College for 10 years before moving to Newport News and taking up the job at Thomas Nelson Community College. He died in 1996, and is buried with his wife (d. 2003) in the United States Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, Maryland.
